“Sneaky Dog Diplomacy”: How Jeffrey Epstein installed a Russian girl from his harem directly into the halls of global power

I was scrolling through the Epstein files when “sneaky dog” caught my eye—the nickname appeared so frequently (nearly 1,400 times!) that I had to dig deeper. At first, it looked like the usual Epstein universe: cringey sexual flirting, him instructing her on how to bring “gifts,” and her promising to do her best. Just another harem story, the infamous pyramid scheme, I thought.

Only two things stood out at first: the girl was Asian—even though Epstein was a known racist who openly disliked Asians—and her demands for money were constant. Still, it felt like just another minor story in the files.

But the real shock came when I checked where this “Epstein girl” is today.

Renata Bolotova appears from at least 2018 on the research desk of the International Peace Institute—the very UN-linked organization whose leadership was later exposed for being on Epstein's payroll.

Terje Rød-Larsen, a prominent Norwegian diplomat, resigned from his position as President and CEO of the IPI in October 2020 following intense public scrutiny over his personal and professional links to Jeffrey Epstein.

He faced pressure after it was revealed that he had secured a personal loan of $130,000 from Epstein in 2013 and that the IPI had received donations from Epstein-linked foundations totaling approximately $650,000 between 2011 and 2019.

Beyond the $130,000 personal loan previously known, new reports allege that Epstein left $10 million to Rød-Larsen’s children in a 2019 will, a claim that has triggered significant diplomatic fallout in Norway.

As of February 2026, Norwegian authorities and the financial crimes squad (Økokrim) are investigating Rød-Larsen on suspicion of aggravated corruption. A central part of this probe involves allegations that he used his influence to help procure visas for Russian models to serve as “interns” at the International Peace Institute (IPI) in New York.

The scandal has also ensnared Thorbjørn Jagland, former Norwegian Prime Minister and head of the Nobel Peace Prize committee. Evidence suggests Rød-Larsen introduced Jagland to Epstein. Epstein subsequently used Jagland's presence at his homes in New York and Paris to prestige-hunt and entice other elites.

It was Jagland—then the Secretary General of the Council of Europe and head of the Nobel Peace Prize Committee—whom Epstein relentlessly pressured to broker a meeting with Putin. The goal? A Napoleonic proposal to overhaul the entire global financial system.

Also, Epstein was obsessed with Mongolia—a tax haven outside Western reach. That required a green light from the Kremlin.

And here is where it gets tactical. Renata Bolotova is Buryat—ethnically Mongolian. In Epstein’s world, she was the perfect cultural asset.

The cherry on top: to grease the wheels for her promotion in the UN, Epstein or his assistants drafted a sob-story essay for her. It claimed that as an Asian woman and a member of the LGBTQ+ community (which she isn't), Renata had suffered deep discrimination.

Her only response to this fabricated victim narrative was playful email back to him: “Oh, you sneaky dog! :)))”

The irony here is chilling because using Buryats as a convenient tool is straight out of the Kremlin’s playbook. For years, Putin has sent Buryat soldiers to do the dirtiest work on the front lines, only to use them as scapegoats for the regime's brutality

The latest batch of Epstein documents released by the US Department of Justice is a bewildering assortment of correspondence, ephemera, and other artifacts. After archiving as much of the sources as possible, we can start to build a portrait of Epstein himself as well as his motivations, attitudes, and interests.

What we have learned so far is startling in its scope and specificity, even as many details could use more sunlight.

1) Epstein was first and foremost about Epstein. His money, real estate, travel, appetites, personnel, network, scientific interests, and medical concerns all flowed together in a continuous feedback loop.

2) He and Steve Bannon were partners in crime for several years until his death. Certainly the first Trump administration was deeply shaped by their shenanigans, as was the European far right movement. And their work is still shaping things now.

3) Epstein considered Putin his fixer. Whenever he had a hard problem, he put in a call to either Sergei Belyakov (a FSB agent), a friend of Putin’s, Putin’s people, or Ehud Barak, who knew Putin.

4) Epstein traveled to Russia repeatedly over the course of at least two decades, getting visas year after year starting in at least 2002. One visa was sponsored by MOO Vympel, a “public organization” for veterans of Vympel, an elite FSB unit specializing in assassinations and foreign operations. He would not have received this without FSB cooperation.

5) Epstein was a secular Jew, worked with many Jews, and code-switched for that audience, but didn’t like Israel as a place. When invited to go there in 2017 with “his girls” by Deepak Chopra, Epstein said, “Another destination. I do not like Israel. AT ALL.” His interests in Israel were more abstract.

6) His sex crimes seem to have been primarily a product of his own personal pathology. With some reports of his needing “three fresh girls a day” and constant chatter about medical testing and treatment for herpes and various other sex-related conditions and conundrums, he was obsessed with sex and it weighed on him. He would have been far more effective at his day job without this distraction.

7) There is evidence that Epstein coordinated travel and visas for many young women he invited to events, but the files reveal relatively meager information about trafficking women to others. While there is a raft of unverified allegations from the public after his highly publicized August 2019 death, many of them bear hallmarks of being shaped by press coverage and of coming from people without first hand knowledge. Some seem more authentic and deserve additional investigation, to the extent not already done.

8) The breadth of his reach into US, UK, and other European power networks is unparalleled. This suggests access to virtually unlimited funds and intelligence. He may have received that primarily from his Kremlin channels, through other partners, and also through his own entrepreneurial activities with people like venture capitalist Peter Thiel.

9) Silicon Valley is deeply compromised by Russian influence. Through investors like Yuri Milner and Thiel, and Epstein’s assistant turned VC Masha Drokova Bucher, there is a clear, concerted effort to drill into Silicon Valley’s tech networks for capture, control, and wealth generation.

10) Russia created Epstein. Russia exposed Epstein. This is a clear strategy of demoralization. No one has heaped more praise on Rep. Thomas Massie (the primary sponsor of the law that forced the release of these documents) than Russia’s proxies. Russia knew that the files would reveal Epstein’s geopolitical manipulations. The hope is that we lose faith in elites, in government, and in democracy. This sets the stage for escalation. We should be careful about falling for this trap.

Epstein had a huge role in shaping the information environment over the last decade, and that appears to have been his intention. Steve Bannon lives; he should be held accountable, as should other living collaborators.

There are many other power centers that contributed to this as well. But it seems clear at this point that Epstein contributed greatly to the misery of the world, and most especially to the misery of his personal victims.

As for Donald Trump, who became a focus for the push to release these documents, this new release doesn’t tell us a lot we didn’t already know. The files do confirm that Epstein and Bannon consider Trump to be their puppet, and one of several. Their familiarity suggests common network ties, but that was already well understood.

These men share other connections as well. Vladimir Kryuchkov, head of the KGB in the late 1980’s, recruited Trump and used Robert Maxwell to exfiltrate Communist Party funds to the West. Maxwell died immediately following the 1991 coup and Epstein seems to have stepped in where he left off. These new files don’t say very much about that but they are consistent with that understanding as well.

For many, a central question is whether Epstein worked for the Israeli state. There is no clear-cut evidence to suggest he did. His primary Israeli contact (and a friend of Belyakov) was Ehud Barak, chief rival to Benjamin Netanyahu and his Likud party. The notion he was enjoying Israeli state sponsorship is not coherent.

In fact, in a 2013 audio recording, Ehud Barak, Larry Summers, and Jeffrey Epstein discussed the notion of absorbing one million “more” Russians into Israel, with an intent to “change Israel” by being “selective” about who was chosen. Robert Maxwell had done the same for decades prior, helping to arrange passports for Russian emigrés to Israel. From a Russian perspective, the way to influence the Levant region has been to influence the makeup of its population and institutions.

The picture that has emerged isn’t an exposé of Trump himself, but a broader influence campaign designed to take down the West and achieve strategic control of the United States and Israel, for which Epstein was a logistics coordinator and network liaison. ◼

[consiglio di procurarsi dei popcorn, la storia è lunga, parte 1 di n]

Several reports have documented multiple connections between Jeffrey Epstein and Russian influence networks. However, little effort has been made to place these ties in a broader context. As part of our multi-part series on Epstein's alignment with Russia's war on the West, we aim to assess the broader meaning behind these relationships.

Previous coverage has focused primarily on these Russia-linked individuals:

Sergei Belyakov — Deputy Minister of Economic Development; Director, St. Petersberg International Economic Forum Foundation (SPIEFF); trained at the FSB Academy. Epstein helped recruit people such as Nathan Myhrvold to participate in SPIEFF. Maintained a long-running bi-directional advisory relationship with Epstein.
Svetlana (Lana) Pozhidaeva — Worked as an assistant to Epstein, allegedly received an O-1 ‘talent’ visa with Belyakov's help.
Guzel Ganieva — A Russian woman who was allegedly engaged in sexual blackmail with businessmen, including Epstein pal Leon Black. In 2015, Epstein asked Belyakov for help, and Belyakov suggested that denying Ganieva entry to the United States would curb her activities.
Maria (Masha) Drokova — A former associate of Kremlin propagandist Vladislav Surkov who led the Pro-Putin ‘Nashi’ movement in Russia. Invited to 2016 election night party in Moscow organized by Konstantin Rykov. Received an E-16 ’Einstein’ visa with the assistance of investor and former Santa Fe Institute board member Esther Dyson. Briefly managed public relations outreach for Jeffrey Epstein, but claimed she was not paid for the work. Founded Silicon Valley venture investing firm Day One Ventures, which has invested in companies associated with both Peter Thiel and Kremlin-associated individuals.
Vitaly Churkin — Russian Ambassador to the United Nations, 2006-2017. Longtime Kremlin operative dating back to late 1980's. Epstein invited investors Peter Thiel and Tom Barrack to meetings with Churkin in 2016. Father of Max Churkin, who worked at Russian bank Sberbank and was scheduled to meet with Epstein before his father's death in 2017.
Robert Maxwell — Scientific publishing magnate, father to Ghislaine and Christine Maxwell, donor to Santa Fe Institute, and friend of Murray Gell-Mann. Helped introduce Russian organized crime figure Semion Mogilevich to Western banking, which may have played a role in helping Russia to export up to $50 billion in assets into Western accounts between 1989-1991.
Our investigation expands on these connections with new reporting.

Epstein, Belyakov, and the BRICS Bank
According to emails obtained by Dossier Center, a journalistic outlet backed by Russian businessman and Putin critic Mikhail Khodorkovsky, Sergei Belyakov enjoyed a long-running relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, which each advising the other on important matters.

Epstein, Belyakov, and the BRICS Bank
According to emails obtained by Dossier Center *, a journalistic outlet backed by Russian businessman and Putin critic Mikhail Khodorkovsky, Sergei Belyakov enjoyed a long-running relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, which each advising the other on important matters.

While their full report contains many important details, one thread stands out: Epstein's advice to Belyakov about banking and avoidance of US sanctions on Russia. Belyakov, as both a FSB Academy graduate and an advisor to Elvira Nabiullina (now head of Russia's Central Bank) was well positioned to engage on this topic in 2014, as Dossier Center reports here:

Epstein repeatedly suggested that Belyakov ‘relax’ and ‘have fun’. In addition, Epstein assured Belyakov of his faith in Russia’s great ideas and suggested various innovative solutions.

(omissis)

Belyakov's assistance with Pozhidaeva's visa and Ganieva's blackmail ring demonstrates a collaborative relationship between the two men, but Epstein's involvement in strategic financial planning and banking points to a far more substantive connection and strategic role within the Kremlin hierarchy.

Robert Maxwell
Ghislaine Maxwell testified in July that Jeffrey Epstein never actually met her father, Robert, and that she and Epstein did not meet until after his death in 1991. But some accounts suggest that other forces may have drawn Epstein into Robert Maxwell's orbit.

In 2008, SVR defector Sergei Tretyakov claimed that KGB chief Vladimir Kryuchkov (who, remember, worked with Churkin to recruit Trump) moved about $50 billion of Communist Party funds into various Western banks prior to the collapse of the Soviet Union. This would have created a need to quickly and discreetly shuffle cash. An article by Russia scholar Françoise Thom argues that Robert Maxwell likely played a key role in facilitating Kryuchkov's transfers, and may have helped connect KGB-connected crime boss Semion Mogilevich to Western banking networks.

The evidence is inconclusive, but large transfers from Russia connected to the Jersey (U.K.)-based Financial Management Company (FIMACO) did take place, and match the number ($50 billion) cited by Tretyakov — far exceeding Russia's own financial reserves which peaked at around $24 billion. Running a shadow banking network would almost require a figure like a Robert Maxwell, if only for coordination.
